PHNOM PENH, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam (CLV) on Sunday signed a joint statement on the establishment of CLV parliamentary summit, according to a press release issued by the Cambodian National Assembly.

The joint statement was inked here in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh by Cambodian National Assembly President Samdech Heng Samrin, Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, and Lao National Assembly President Saysomphone Phomvihane.

"The three presidents agreed to elevate the existing mechanism of the CLV foreign affairs commissions meeting to the CLV parliamentary summit," the press release said. "The summit aims to further deepen friendly relations, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation among CLV countries."

It will also aim to promote the exchange of information, experiences and good practices on the functions and duties of CLV national assemblies, and mobilize financial resources to implement programs and projects under the framework of the CLV Development Triangle Area.

The first summit will be hosted by the Lao National Assembly in 2023, the press release said.

"This parliamentary cooperation framework will generate more tangible benefits, based on mutual respect, mutual understanding, mutual trust and mutual interest for peace and prosperity for the peoples of the three countries and beyond," it said.

The leaders of Lao and Vietnamese parliaments are in Cambodia for the 43rd General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (43rd AIPA), which will be held on Monday.
