DAMASCUS, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Several Syrian soldiers were killed on Sunday by Turkish airstrikes in northern Syria, state news agency SANA reported.
The soldiers were killed by the strikes which hit several military sites of the Syrian army and Kurdish militias in the countryside region of Hasakah and Aleppo provinces in northern Syria, said SANA, spelling no details about the death toll.
The airstrikes left huge damage in residential areas, SANA added.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the Turkish strikes killed six Syrian soldiers and nine fighters with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and wounded 30 others from both sides, while 18 Syrian soldiers have gone missing following the strike in both Hasakah and Aleppo.
The war monitor said the Turkish airstrikes aimed to hit the positions of the Kurdish militias following the explosion that took place in Istanbul on Nov. 13 that killed at least six and left 81 injured.
Turkish police said they detained a Syrian woman named Ahlam Albashir, who confessed to receiving an attack order from the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG). Ankara sees the YPG as the Syrian branch of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK). ■
