BEIJING, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- China lost to Slovenia 3-1 in the best of five playoffs in the Billie Jean King Cup on Saturday and failed to reach the world group qualifiers of the women's tennis team competition.
In the previous matchday on Friday, China's Zheng Qinwen won the first point with a 7-6(4), 6-3 victory over Nina Potocnik of Slovenia, while Wang Xinyu lost to Kaja Juvan 6-3, 6-1.
In Saturday's first rubber, Zheng Qinwen won the opening set against Juvan but was unable to keep the initiative, losing at 6-2, 6-7(6), 3-6.
Wang Xiyu then came on court and lost to Potocnik 6-3, 6-2.
The Play-offs consist of eight ties played on a home-and-away basis. The winning teams of the play-offs will compete in the Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers the following year while the losing teams will compete in regional Group I events the following year. ■
