BARCELONA, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Spain, France and Portugal agreed in October to build a gas pipeline connecting the Spanish city of Barcelona and the French port of Marseille as an alternative to transporting natural gas and green hydrogen from Portugal and Spain to France.
But a Spanish energy expert says, the pipeline, dubbed BarMar, will not solve Europe's energy problems.
He also expressed concerns over the environmental impact of the project.
Europe's energy supply from Russia has been seriously reduced as the Ukraine crisis continues. Last year, up to 40 percent of the natural gas used in the EU to heat homes and power businesses came from Russia. Today, this figure has fallen to around nine percent.
