RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Paraguay international winger Angel Romero is close to returning to his former club Corinthians on a free transfer, according to media reports in Brazil.
The 30-year-old's representatives are in advanced talks with Corinthians officials and an agreement is expected to be struck within days, news outlet Globo Esporte said on Wednesday.
It added that Corinthians manager Vitor Pereira sees Romero as an ideal replacement for forward Gustavo Silva, who has been ruled out until the middle of 2023 because of a knee injury.
Romero's current contract with Mexico's Cruz Azul is due to expire in December.
He represented Corinthians from 2014 to 2018, scoring 20 goals and providing 14 assists in 136 first-team appearances for the Sao Paulo club. ■
