JOHANNESBURG, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- South Africa is committed to tackling terrorism and illicit financing activities in the country, said Mondli Gungubele, minister in the Presidency Responsible for State Security on Wednesday.
The minister made the remarks after reports emerged alleging that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria has members in South Africa providing "technical, financial, or material support" to the group.
"We will not allow our territory to be used to fund terrorism in other countries. As such and working with our counterparts in the fight against terrorism, we will do everything in our power to uncover and root out acts of terrorism and illicit financing in particular," said Gungubele.
He assured the nation that law enforcement agencies are on high alert to protect the citizens. ■
