MEXICO CITY, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Former Mexico national team boss Miguel Herrera has been sacked as manager of Tigres UANL after less than 18 months in the role, the Liga MX club said on Wednesday.

The announcement followed Tigres' elimination from the Liga MX Apertura tournament in the quarterfinal phase at the hands of eventual champions Pachuca last month.

"After carrying out an in-depth analysis, [we have] taken the decision to end the employment agreement with Miguel Herrera and his backroom staff," read a Tigres statement.

"We thank Miguel and his entire team for the professionalism shown throughout the three league tournaments in which they led Tigres, and we wish them success in their future projects," it added.

Herrera guided the outfit from Nuevo Leon to 32 wins, 13 draws and 18 losses after replacing Brazilian manager Ricardo Ferretti in May last year.

The 54-year-old's coaching career has included spells in charge of America, Monterrey, Veracruz and Tijuana, among other clubs. He led Mexico's national team from 2013 to 2015, a tenure that included the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
