RAMALLAH, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian was killed on Wednesday by Israeli soldiers near Joseph's Tomb in the northern West Bank city of Nablus, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said in a statement.

The ministry said Mahdi Hashash was killed after Israeli soldiers seriously injured him during clashes that broke out overnight near Joseph's Tomb east of Nablus.

Palestinian eyewitnesses said Palestinian protestors threw stones at the soldiers, who fired teargas and live ammunition to disperse them.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said that Israeli soldiers injured three Palestinians, and over 50 suffered suffocation from teargas.

Israeli media reported that Israeli soldiers opened fire and killed a Palestinian gunman.

Tension has been building between Israel and Palestine since March after the Israeli army intensified its military actions against Palestinian gunmen and stormed Palestinian towns and cities in the West Bank.
