Machino replaces injured Nakayama in Japan's World Cup squad

TOKYO, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Forward Shuto Machino, who plays with Japanese first division side Shonan Bellmare, has replaced injured Huddersfield Town defender Yuta Nakayama to join Japan's World Cup squad, the Japan Football Association announced on Tuesday.

Machino won his first cap in the East Asian Football Federation E-1 Championship last July, and the 23-year-old was one of J-League's best strikers this season, scoring 13 goals to place second in the leading-scorer list.

Nakayama was forced to pull out of the World Cup in Qatar after suffering an Achilles injury in Huddersfield's 2-0 loss to Sunderland in the English Championship.

Japan head coach Hajime Moriyasu announced a 26-man squad for the World Cup last Tuesday.
