GAZA, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian security said two Hamas military sites in the central Gaza Strip were under Israeli airstrikes on Friday.

The security sources told Xinhua that Israeli fighter jets fired several missiles targetting the sites belonging to Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, damaging the sites and nearby facilities.

Eyewitnesses said that strong explosions were heard while ambulances and civil defense crews were rushing to the targeted areas. No injuries were immediately reported.

The announcement came after the Israeli military said late Thursday that the country's Iron Dome defense system intercepted a rocket fired from Gaza Strip at southern Israel. The other three rockets launched by Gaza militants landed in an empty area, causing no damage.

The Israeli airstrikes on the Hamas-ruled coastal enclave are the first in three months since a calm agreement was reached in August between Israel and the Gaza-based Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
