GENEVA, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- The FIBA Women's World Cup in Australia went viral on the Internet as it saw a hugh increase of popularity on social platforms, world basketball governing body FIBA said.
"There were 1.1 billion impressions and 14 million engagements across global social platforms, five times more than in 2018, and half a billion video views, seven times more compared to the previous World Cup, on social as well," said FIBA on its official website.
The official website of the tournament also had 1.5 million fans visit, almost doubling the number of the 2018 event.
In China, 18 million fans watched the final between China and the United States on TV and another 23 million viewed the match on the Internet, and a total of 750 million audiences watched the tournament in China.
A total of 145,000 spectators also set a new record of attendance in the World Cup history. ■
