HANOI, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam has decided to limit cars and allow only electric-powered public transport in many streets of Hoi An city's old town area, one of its most popular tourist destinations, as part of its efforts to boost green traffic, local media reported on Friday.
The new traffic plans for the UNESCO-recognized world heritage site in central Vietnam aim to ease congestion in overloaded infrastructure facilities in the booming tourism area, the local newspaper Vietnam News reported, citing the city's authorities.
It is expected that Hoi An will ban all gasoline-powered vehicles in its old town area by the end of this year, allowing the traffic of only environment-friendly vehicles such as electric cars or bicycles, said the newspaper. ■
