BEIJING, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Leaders of political parties and governments as well as heads of state worldwide have sent congratulations to Xi Jinping on his election as general secretary of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Megawati Sukarnoputri, chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle and former president of the country, expressed the expectation that China will play a bigger role in the international arena and jointly push for the establishment of a peaceful and just international order.

Under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee, China has made significant achievements in economic growth and improvement of people's living standards, and the country has increasingly become a respected and important force on the international stage, said Robert Fico, leader of the Direction-Social Democracy party and former prime minister of Slovakia.

Former Croatian President Stjepan Mesic said he believes that Xi will continue to lead China to greater development and to play an important role in safeguarding world peace and promoting common development.

Saying that he highly admires Xi's foresight and strong leadership, former Slovenian President Danilo Turk said he hopes Xi will lead China to continuously achieve new progress and make greater contributions to promoting world peace and development.

Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era is not only of epoch-making significance in Chinese history, but also has made important contributions to the progress of human civilization, said Vlad Batrincea, executive secretary of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova and deputy speaker of the parliament.

Xi has led the CPC in achieving China's great development achievements in various fields and becoming a model for political parties in various countries to learn from, said Jose Luis Gioja, vice president of the Chamber of Deputies of Argentina.

He expressed the firm belief that the CPC will continue to follow the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics and march forward bravely to achieve the Second Centenary Goal.
