SEOUL, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- South Korea reported 40,842 new COVID-19 cases as of midnight Tuesday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 25,396,155, the health authorities said Wednesday.
The daily caseload was down from 43,759 of the previous day, but it was higher than 29,492 tallied a week earlier, according to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA).
For the past week, the daily average number of confirmed cases was 28,877.
Among the new cases, 81 were imported from overseas, lifting the total to 69,432.
The number of infected people who were in serious condition stood at 242, up 17 from the previous day.
Twenty-six more deaths were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 29,043. The total fatality rate was 0.11 percent. ■
