SANTIAGO, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chilean President Gabriel Boric on Thursday activated a clock marking the one-year countdown to the start of the 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games Santiago 2023.
"Sports teach us that people are different in body, abilities and skills, and that is good. These games are going to reflect that diversity and I'm very glad that they are taking place in Chile," Boric said from the Palacio de La Moneda, where he received Chilean sports team members.
The president said that the government would support high-performance athletes during his administration.
The Santiago Metropolitan Regional government previously announced an investment of 4 billion pesos (4.27 million U.S. dollars) to promote activities related to the development of the Games.
