TEHRAN, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- A senior Iranian commander said on Friday the recent military drill staged in northwestern Iran warned the "enemies" of a crushing Iranian response in case of taking any hostile action.

Ali Akbar Pourjamshidian, deputy commander for Coordination of the Ground Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), made the remarks in the northwestern city of Tabriz, according to Iranian Students' News Agency.

He stressed that for the "enemies who are present in parts of the neighboring states' soil and seek to incite sedition in Iran," the massive three-day military exercise held a few days ago sent a message that they will face "our clenched and strong fist" in case of aggression.

Pourjamshidian added the IRGC attaches great importance to its border dwellers as well as vital and economic interests, emphasizing that these are among the country's red lines.

He warned that Iran is very sensitive about any act of aggression that would be perpetrated against its soil and bids to change the country's borders, and will react "decisively" to them.

Starting on Monday, the IRGC Ground Force held a large-scale military exercise in Iran's northwestern border regions with the participation of various units.
