ISLAMABAD, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- The number of dengue fever cases keeps on increasing in Pakistan as another death was reported in the South Asian country.
The death was reported from the southern Sindh province, the provincial health department said on Tuesday evening.
In the last 24 hours, 314 new infections of dengue fever were reported in Sindh province, and the worst-hit area Karachi reported 197 new cases. With the newly-reported dengue cases, the October figure to date for the province has risen to 5,827, bringing the total local tally to 15,981 this year.
In the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, 433 more people were diagnosed with the disease, the provincial health department said on Tuesday night. The number of active cases in the province currently stands at 1,740 and the total number of cases this year has reached 14,954.
The eastern Punjab province reported 288 new cases in the last 24 hours, the provincial health authorities said on Tuesday. Punjab's capital Lahore reported 127 new cases, followed by Rawalpindi city with 78 cases. The total number of dengue cases in Punjab this year has now gone up to 11,518.
The national capital Islamabad reported 50 new dengue cases in the last 24 hours, the health authorities said on Tuesday night. The city's total tally has risen to 3,864 this year. ■
