BAGHDAD, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Two militants of Türkiye's Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) were killed on Tuesday in a Turkish drone strike in Iraq's northern province of Nineveh, the Counter-Terrorism Service of the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region said in a statement.
At 8:20 p.m. (1720 GMT), a Turkish drone bombarded a vehicle carrying PKK militants in the town of Sinjar, some 100 km west of Nineveh's provincial capital Mosul, killing a PKK local leader and a militant while wounding another militant, it added.
The Turkish forces frequently carry out ground operations, airstrikes, and artillery bombardments in northern Iraq, especially the Qandil Mountains, the main base of the PKK.
The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the United States and the EU, has been rebelling against the Turkish government for more than three decades. ■
