TASHKENT, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Japan claimed their fifth gold medal at the ongoing 2022 Judo World Championships on Sunday.

Megumi Horikawa, who won two grand slam titles this year, defeated Canada's Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard in the women's -63 kg category final. The two put up a tough fight but one second from the bell, the Japanese scored a dream ippon to clinch gold.

France's Manon Deketer and Portugal's Barbara Timo shared third place, while China's Tang Jing failed to make the third round.

In the men's -81 kg category final, Georgia's European champion Tato Grigalashvili beat Belgium's Matthias Casse, bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, to win the gold medal. Japan's Takanori Nagase and Austria's Shamil Borchashvilt took the bronze.

The Judo World Championships runs from October 6 to 13.
