LHASA, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- With heavy spending on the construction of railway and road facilities, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region has fostered rapid development and constant improvements to the lives of the locals.

Chuni Village of Chawalong Township is located just beside the Nujiang River.

In the past, people in the hamlet could only go to the town by taking the zip-line or climbing over the cliffs.

"Our life used to be pretty hard. There was no path out of the village. It took a total of seven days to get to the county seat. Even going to the township seat would take three days," said Dazheng, a Chuni villager.

In Nov. 2019, Chuni Nujiang River Bridge opened to traffic. Travel time between the village and the township was reduced from three days to three hours.

All 247 people in 43 households in the village bid farewell to the life of taking zip-lines and climbing cliffs.

According to Tibet's transport department, since 2012, more than 337 billion yuan (about 50.4 billion U.S. dollars) has been spent as fixed-asset investment in the region's transport sector.

The total length of roads in Tibet has increased by some 55,000 km to 120,000 km over the past 10 years, including more than 90,000 km of rural roads.
