MEXICO CITY, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- French striker Andre-Pierre Gignac scored two second-half goals as Tigres UANL advanced to the Liga MX quarterfinals on Saturday with a 2-0 home win over Necaxa.

Tigres suffered an early blow when full-back Javier Aquino was shown a straight red card for violent conduct.

Necaxa were also reduced to 10 men just after halftime as Facundo Batista was dismissed for an ugly challenge on Raymundo Fulgencio.

Gignac broke the deadlock on the hour mark by curling a free-kick into the top right corner.

The former Marseille frontman doubled the advantage with a close-range header following Fulgencio's cross 17 minutes from time.

The result means Tigres will meet Santos Laguna in the last eight on Wednesday.

In Saturday's only other Liga MX playoff fixture, Ignacio Rivero struck in the 72nd minute to fire Cruz Azul to a 1-0 win over Leon.

Los Celestes will make the trip to Monterrey for their quarterfinal duel on Wednesday.
