BEIJING, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines over the past week:
1. China claims 5th straight women's title at table tennis team worlds

China won its fifth consecutive women's teams title after sweeping Japan 3-0 at the World Team Table Tennis Championships on Saturday.
It was also a record-extending 22nd time for China to have lifted the Corbillon Cup in history.
2. China has chance of qualifying for last eight at women's volleyball worlds

China's women's volleyball team prevailed against Pool E opponent Puerto Rico at the FIVB World Championship on Wednesday in straight sets 25-15, 25-19, 25-21 to kick off Phase 2 of the tournament. The team later edged the Netherlands in a breathtaking five-set clash on Thursday to claim their second win.
China lost to the Nations League champions Italy 26-24, 25-16, 25-20 on Saturday. Sitting fourth in the pool, China could also advance to the last eight if they beat Belgium in their last group match on Sunday.
3. China's table tennis legend Liu Guoliang to chair WTT board

The Chinese Table Tennis Association president Liu Guoliang has been appointed chairman of the World Table Tennis (WTT) board, the organization announced at the ongoing World Team Table Tennis Championships on Thursday. The 46-year-old former Olympic champion is also the current WTT Council chair and executive vice president of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
4. Candidates revealed for 2022 China Basketball Hall of Fame

A 16-strong candidate list has been handed over to the 2022 China Basketball Hall of Fame after the decision by a 500-member nomination committee.
The 16 candidates from 30 nominees picked up by 100 basketball-related parties will be reviewed by the China Basketball Hall of Fame Final Review Committee to decide the final ten members, which will include four male players, three female players and three coaches.
5. Yao Ming has called for calm despite China's success at the FIBA Women's World Cup

Chinese Basketball Association president Yao Ming urged people not to get carried away with China's better-than-expected results at the FIBA Women's World Cup.
"It is better than expected, but the growth of a team cannot be within just a short period," he said.
