RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Leaders Palmeiras continued their march toward Brazil's Serie A title on Monday by coming from behind to secure a 3-1 away victory over Botafogo.
Francisco Soares put the hosts ahead with a 20th-minute strike before Gustavo Scarpa equalized from the penalty spot six minutes later.
Palmeiras took the lead through Mayke Oliveira's 36th-minute goal and Dudu Rodrigues extended the advantage on the hour mark.
The visitors suffered a scare in the 69th minute when Ze Rafael was dismissed for a bad foul that earned him a second yellow card.
But Abel Ferreira's men held on to secure their 18th win of the campaign and remain 10 points clear of second-placed Internacional with nine match days remaining. Botafogo are 10th in the 20-team standings with 37 points. ■
