MACAO, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Macao's general unemployment rate for the period from June to August this year rose by 0.2 percentage point to 4.3 percent from the May-July period, the special administrative region (SAR)'s statistics department said on Friday.
The latest report from Macao's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) said that the unemployment rate for local residents was 5.5 percent for the June-August period, up 0.1 percentage point from the May-July period.
The underemployment rate rose by 3.1 percentage points to 16.5 percent, while the labor force participation rate was 68.9 percent, the DSEC report added.
The labor force living in Macao totaled 379,200 people for the period from June to August this year. Total employment was 362,900 and the number of employed residents totaled 278,300, up by 1,600 and 4,300 respectively from the May-July period, showed the report.
The number of unemployed increased by 700 from the May-July period to 16,300.
Meanwhile, the proportion of people seeking their first job rose 3.3 percentage points to 12.0 percent of the total unemployed.
The number of the underemployed increased by 12,000 from the May-July period to 62,600.
In comparison with the period from June to August 2021, the underemployment rate, the unemployment rate and the labor force participation rate increased by 12.8, 1.5 and 0.4 percentage points respectively. ■
