GENEVA, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- The Swiss cities of Bern and Thun have given financial support to the country's bid for UEFA Women's Euro 2025.
The two cities are among Switzerland's venue candidate cities, which also feature Basel, Zurich, Sion, Lausanne, Geneva, St. Gallen and Lucerne.
The main rivals to the Swiss bid include France, Poland and a joint bid from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, ahead of a UEFA deadline for candidates of October 12.
Bern and Thun are the first Swiss cities to have committed credit or financial support, promising 6.1 million CHF (6.24 million U.S. dollars) and 3.6 million CHF (3.68 million U.S. dollars) for the bid respectively.
UEFA will name the winning bid on January 25, 2023. ■
