ISLAMABAD, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal urged the country's students to become community mobilizers and prepare food for children and mothers in flood-affected areas.
Iqbal made the appeal here on Wednesday while addressing the conference on International Day of Peace, organized by Pakistan's Higher Education Commission (HEC).
The minister said that he had asked the HEC to set the target of 2 million nutrition packs supported by university students.
The food packs will be distributed among the flood-affected people, especially among mothers and children in the next ten days through the National Disaster Management Authority, he added.
Iqbal further added that one-third of the country has been submerged by floods and reiterated that the government is making all efforts for the rehabilitation of the flood-affected areas. ■
