2 Russians killed in firefighting helicopter crash in Türkiye

ANKARA, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- A firefighter helicopter crashed Wednesday in southwestern Türkiye on a mission, killing two Russians on board and injuring five other crew members, the Turkish Interior Ministry said.

Two Turks and 5 Russians were on the helicopter at the time of the incident in Turkish southwestern Denizli Province, it said in a statement.

Engineer Aleksandr Iakovlev and technician Alexey Volkov lost their lives, local broadcaster NTV reported, citing the ministry.

The Russian-made firefighting helicopter left the Turkish northern province of Kastamonu in aid of extinguishing a forest fire in the Marmaris district of southwestern Mugla, and crashed near the Cardak district in Denizli, according to the report.
