BEIRUT, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi said on Monday that the country's security agencies will be alert to any attempts that may threaten the security of Lebanon and its brotherly countries.

Mawlawi's remarks came one day after the Lebanese authorities thwarted an attempt to smuggle one million Captagon pills to Kuwait via Sudan.

"Lebanon will not be a source of harm to the security of the Kuwaiti society," Mawlawi said during a phone conversation with Sheikh Talal Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Kuwait's deputy prime minister and defense minister.

While praising the strong cooperation between the interior ministries in Lebanon and Kuwait, Mawlawi stressed the need to intensify efforts to "combat any method of exporting harm to all Arab societies."

In recent months, Lebanese security forces launched dozens of operations to crack down on drug smuggling crimes.
