PARIS, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- The preparation work for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games is "on track" as the organizers are aiming to deliver an "inspiring Games", the International Olympic Committee (IOC)'s Coordination Commission chair Nicole Hoevertsz said during her stay in LA.
"LA is an amazing place, with amazing people. This is evident in the quality and quantity of world-class sports facilities available for the Games, including modern, cutting-edge stadiums and iconic legacy venues used during the 1932 and 1984 Olympic Games," said Hoevertsz, a former synchronized swimmer.
The southern California metropolis is going to be the third city, after London and Paris, to host the summer Olympic Games for the third time, after two previous editions in 1932 and 1984.
During the visit, the LA organizers took the opportunity to update Coordination Commission members on pivotal milestones reached over the last 12 months.
This included the confirmation of the dates for the Olympic (July 14-30) and Paralympic (August 15-27) Games, as well as an update on the progress with the review of potential sports proposed by the Organising Committees of the Olympic Games, conducted in close partnership with the IOC and the respective International Sports Federations.
"LA28 is well positioned to deliver amazing Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. With six years to go, we've entered the traditional planning phase of the Games and are preparing for an incredible event, prioritizing athlete and fan experience and fiscal responsibility," said Casey Wasserman, the chair of the LA28 Organizing Committee.
LA28 will take full advantage of existing venues, while no new permanent venues will be built for the Games, according to the organizers.
To encourage the young generation to take part in sports, a youth program named PlayLA has been launched by the city, with an investment of 160 million U.S. dollars to make sports more accessible to children and young people across LA.
Besides hosting the Olympic Games for a record-equaling third time, it will also be the first time for LA to host the Paralympic Games. ■
