GABORONE, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Botswana's Gaborone United won 1-0 over Congolese side AS Vita in the first leg of the 2022-23 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League preliminary round here on Sunday.

Thero Setsile's first-half goal gave Gaborone United an advantage ahead of the second-leg match scheduled in Kinshasa in a week's time.

The home side enjoyed most of the first half ball possession with midfielder Mothusi Cooper instilling authority and controlling play. The United were rewarded with a goal in the 36th minute as Setsile connected on a pass from Thatayaone Kgamanyane past the Vita goalkeeper into the net.

The United coach Benny Kgomela told a post-match press conference that he was happy with his team's performance despite not being able to convert more chances they created.

Vita coach Raoul Shungu said they were looking to overcome to score in Kinshasa where conditions will be favorable to his side.
