CAIRO, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi held talks on Tuesday with visiting Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra in Cairo, where they vowed to strengthen bilateral ties and step up coordination on regional issues, the Egyptian presidency said in a statement.
During the meeting, Lamamra gave Sisi a letter from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune who invited his Egyptian counterpart to attend the Arab summit scheduled for November in Algeria, which was welcomed by Sisi, according to the statement.
"In his letter, the Algerian president affirmed Algeria's keenness to strengthen bilateral cooperation at various levels and promote them to broader prospects, in line with the profound bonds between the two brotherly countries and their peoples," read the statement.
For his part, Sisi expressed "Egypt's aspiration to work with Algeria to ensure the success of the Arab summit in strengthening joint Arab action in order to address the huge challenges facing the Arab nation."
He also stressed Egypt's interest to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Algeria in all fields.
The Arab summit that gathers Arab leaders annually was not held in 2020 and 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but Algeria officially confirmed that it would be held in early November this year.
The talks between Sisi and Lamamra also addressed a number of Arab issues of common interest, "especially the latest developments in Syria, Libya and Iraq."
Both Cairo and Algiers agreed on "the importance of intensifying mutual coordination to work on restoring regional security, stability and peace," said the presidency statement. ■
