SAO PAULO, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Uruguayan midfielder David Terans scored a dramatic late goal as Athletico Paranaense secured a berth in the Copa Libertadores final with a 3-2 aggregate win over defending champions Palmeiras in their all-Brazilian semifinal on Tuesday.
Having taken a 1-0 advantage in last week's first leg, Atletico looked overawed early at Palmeiras' Allianz Parque as Gustavo Scarpa put his team on level terms with a low third-minute strike.
Palmeiras were reduced to 10 men just before half time when Murilo Cerqueira received a straight red card for a bad challenge on Vitor Roque.
The dismissal appeared to have little impact as a Gustavo Gomez header gave the hosts the lead on aggregate just before the hour mark.
But Paranaense, who are managed by Brazil's 2002 FIFA World Cup-winning coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, began to capitalize on their numerical advantage by controlling possession and pressing forward in numbers.
They were rewarded in the 64th minute when Pablo Teixeira tapped in from close range after Roque's cross.
Paranaense regained the overall lead five minutes from time through Terans, who latched onto Teixeira's pass before rifling a long-range effort into the bottom left corner.
Paranaense will play the winner of the other semifinal between Brazilian giants Flamengo and Argentina's Velez Sarsfield in the final.
Flamengo are firm favorites to advance after winning the first leg 4-0 in Buenos Aires.
Paranaense have only reached the Copa Libertadores final once before, when they were beaten by Brazilian rivals Sao Paulo in the 2005 edition. ■
