TEHRAN, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Saturday that the Iranian government and people will not give up on their legitimate rights and are standing against the excessive demands and oppression of the "heirs of colonialism."

Nasser Kanaani made the remarks in an Instagram post on the occasion of the country's National Day on Sept. 3 against the British colonialism.

The national day, he said, is the day of fighting colonialism and a reminder of the heroic and brave character of Rais Ali Delvari, who is a symbol of fighting against the aggressive and avaricious colonialists.

Delvari, who led popular resistance against the British troops in southern Iran, died in 1915 at the age of 33 in a fierce clash with British aggressors in the southern port city of Bushehr.

Since April 2021, Iran has been in talks with world powers to revive a 2015 nuclear deal, from which the United States unilaterally withdrew in 2018, and to lift Washington's sanctions imposed on Tehran in the aftermath of the pullout.
