TEHRAN, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- A top Iranian commander said Thursday that the country's armed forces, well equipped with diverse weapons of defense, are ready to respond to threats at any level.
Hossein Salami, chief commander of Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), made the remarks during a visit to a defense and electronic warfare exhibition held by the Defense Ministry, according to the semi-official Fars news agency.
He said Iran faces no shortage in this field, citing the country's advances in the defense sector.
Those advances are "glorious, powerful and deterrent" and in concord with international technological advancements and requirements for defending the country against enemies' threats, he said.
Salami emphasized that it was necessary for Iran to upgrade its military equipment and defense systems so to reduce its distance from developed countries in terms of military capabilities and pace of technological advances.
He added that the Iranian armed forces have made "decisive achievements" in different fields of defense, including electronic warfare. ■
