RAMALLAH, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- At least 25 Palestinians were injured on Tuesday during clashes with Israeli soldiers in the West Bank city of Nablus, Palestinian medics and eyewitnesses said.
Heavily-armed Israeli soldiers stormed Rujeib town of the city and surrounded a Palestinian house in an attempt to arrest Palestinians inside, official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.
Plumes of smoke were seen rising from the house as loud explosions were heard in the village, eyewitnesses said.
The Israeli soldiers entered the village to arrest Nabil Sawalhi and Nehad Awad, two men who were suspected of carrying out a shooting attack against an Israeli military vehicle on Aug. 26. The two men later surrendered and turned themselves in, said a source who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Violent clashes broke out as Israeli forces withdrew from the village, injuring at least 25 Palestinians, WAFA reported.
Tension in the West Bank has been mounting over the past few days after the Israeli army intensified its military actions against Palestinian militants and activists, mainly in Jenin and Nablus in the northern West Bank. ■
