WARSAW, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Poland's men's volleyball team smashed Mexico 25-17, 25-14, 25-19 at the FIVB World Championship to seal their second victory in the tournament in the Polish city of Katowice on Sunday.

The world champions continued their momentum after having beaten Bulgaria in straight sets. On Sunday evening, they showed a higher quality than Mexico in every element of the game. The tournament co-hosts have already booked their spot in the next round without losing a set, and produced their seventh consecutive victory on Sunday.

24-year-old hitter Tomasz Fornal contributed nine points, while middle blocker Mateusz Bieniek added seven. Opposite Diego Castaneda Gonzalez earned 11 points for Mexico.

At the second technical break, the hosts were leading by two points (16-14) but then they started to deal with the Mexican block to increase the gap and close the match out.

"In two matches we proved that we are able to play on a high level. However, we still have to seek things to improve. It's not a crucial phase of the tournament but I believe we will be better in every next match. We worked really hard before the championships to meet the expectations," Poland captain Bartosz Kurek commented after the game.

On Tuesday, Poland face the United States in their last match of the preliminary phase. Both teams have earned six points so far, as earlier in the day the United States sank Bulgaria in three straight sets 25-20, 25-23, 26-24.
