BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Gimnasia, Argentinos Juniors and Racing Club edged closer to leaders Atletico Tucuman with respective victories in Argentine Primera Division matches on Thursday.

Leonardo Morales and Franco Soldano scored in each half as Gimnasia extended their unbeaten league run to five games with a 2-0 win at Union Santa Fe.

The result left second-placed Gimnasia with 28 points from 14 outings, a point behind Atletico Tucuman, who drew 0-0 at Tigre on Wednesday.

In Buenos Aires, an early Thiago Nuss goal gave Argentinos Juniors a 1-0 home win over Estudiantes. It was Argentinos Juniors' eighth victory from 14 games this season and left them third in the 28-team standings, two points behind Gimnasia.

Meanwhile, Racing Club extended their unbeaten run to 10 games with a 2-0 away victory over Banfield. Matias Rojas and Tomas Chancalay struck first-half goals as Racing rose to fourth with 24 points. Fernando Gago's men have not lost in the league since June 20, when they fell 3-1 to Gimnasia.

Also on Thursday, Patronato drew 3-3 at Talleres Cordoba, Aldosivi won 3-2 at home to Velez Sarsfield, and Barracas Central prevailed 3-1 at home to Defensa y Justicia.
