PHNOM PENH, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's Minister of Public Works and Transport Sun Chanthol on Thursday called on people to use electric vehicles (EVs) as some 155 new EVs were registered in the first seven months of this year.

"The use of EVs in Cambodia has increased significantly. During the January-July period of 2022, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport had registered 155 EVs, remarkably up from only 11 EVs during the same period last year," he said during the biannual meeting of the National Road Safety Committee.

"I would like to call on our people to promote the use of EVs and electric motorcycles," he said, adding that using EVs reduces expense as charging an EV is much cheaper than filling petrol or diesel, and is eco-friendly.

Currently, EV charging stations are available at four locations in the Southeast Asian nation, Chanthol said, adding that one location is at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport in Phnom Penh and the three others are in Preah Sihanouk, Siem Reap and Battambang provinces each.
