MUMBAI, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- India's first electric double-decker bus was launched here on Thursday.
The new electric double-decker bus will be the country's first semi-low floor, air conditioned and electric double-decker that uses a 650 V (voltage) architecture with a seating capacity of 65, said the vehicle manufacturer Switch Mobility.
Speaking after the launch of the electric bus, Indian Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said, "With focus on reforming urban transport, we are trying to build a low footprint and high passenger density integrated EV mobility ecosystem."
Switch Mobility, a subsidiary of India's leading commercial automobile manufacturer Ashok Leyland, has already secured an order of 200 electric double decker buses in Mumbai.
The Indian government has set a target to be a 100-percent electric-vehicle nation by 2030. ■
