MEXICO CITY, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Camilo Sanvezzo converted a late penalty as Toluca maintained their lead at the top Mexico's Liga MX standings on Sunday with a 3-2 away win over Cruz Azul.

The hosts went ahead through a Ramiro Funes Mori strike in the 19th minute, before goals from Jean Meneses and Marcel Ruiz gave Cruz Aul the lead.

Rodrigo Huescas put the hosts on level terms by lashing a left-footed effort from distance beyond the reach of goalkeeper Thiago Volpi.

But Toluca did not relent and they were rewarded for their efforts when Sanvezzo struck from the penalty spot after goalkeeper Sebastian Jurado was sent off for stomping on Haret Ortega during a clearance attempt.

The result leaves Toluca with 20 points from nine games, a point ahead of second-placed Monterrey. Cruz Azul are 15th in the 18-team standings, 12 points further back.

In Sunday's only other fixture, Tigres UANL eased to a 2-0 home win over Santos Laguna.
