RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Fabricio Bruno struck twice as Flamengo cruised to a 5-0 home victory over Athletico Paranaense in Brazil's Serie A championship on Sunday.
Fabricio opened the scoring at the Maracana stadium with a 56th-minute header after Marinho's delivery and the pair combined again three minutes later when the center-back again nodded home from a corner.
Ayrton, Lazaro and Pedro were also on the scoresheet for Flamengo, who have now won six consecutive league matches.
The result leaves Dorival Junior's men third in the 20-team standings with 39 points from 22 matches, nine points behind Palmeiras. Paranaense are fifth, two points further back.
In other Brazilian Serie A fixtures on Sunday, Internacional secured a 3-0 home win over Fluminense, hosts America Mineiro defeated Santos 1-0, Sao Paulo won 3-0 at home to Bragantino, Fortaleza prevailed 1-0 at Ceara and Atletico Mineiro won 1-0 at Coritiba. ■
