RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Santos has reached a deal to sign Venezuelan midfielder Yeferson Soteldo on loan from Mexico's Tigres UANL.
Under the terms of the deal, Soteldo will be tied to Santos until December 2023, with the Brazilian club having an option to secure the 25-year-old on a permanent deal.
It will be Soteldo's second spell at Santos, having also represented the eight-time Brazilian top flight champions from 2019 to 2021.
"The small giant is back," Santos said in a Twitter post accompanied by images and a video.
Soteldo made 87 appearances and scored 19 goals in his first stint with Santos but has since struggled to recapture his best form.
The playmaker, who has been capped 28 times for Venezuela, had a nine-month spell at Toronto FC before joining Tigres on a four-year deal in January.
He made just 19 appearances for the Liga MX outfit and scored one goal, having mostly been used as a substitute.
Santos is currently ninth in the 20-team Serie A standings with 30 points from nine matches, 15 points behind leader Palmeiras. ■
