BEIJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- The 2022 Beijing (International) Canal Cultural Festival kicked off in Tongzhou District of Beijing on Monday. With a history of about 2,500 years, the Grand Canal is a vast waterway connecting the northern and southern parts of China.
The festival integrates cultural, tourism, sports and other resources along the Grand Canal.
The Grand Canal connects Beijing and Hangzhou in east China's Zhejiang Province, serving as a significant transportation artery in ancient China.
An over 1,000-km-stretch of the canal was declared a world heritage site in 2014.
