WARSAW, July 31 (Xinhua) -- French tennis player Caroline Garcia won at the WTA Poland Open after beating Romanian Ana Bogdan 6-4, 6-1 in the final here on Sunday.
The 28-year-old, who sensationally eliminated world No. 1 Iga Swiatek of Poland in the quarterfinal, quickly proved why she was seen as a favorite before the last game of the tournament. Thanks to a good first service, the French made a perfect start winning the three opening games.
Bogdan fought until the end as she found two breaks. However, Garcia kept the pressure to win the first set 6-4 after an aggressive return. ■
