BEIRUT, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese President Michel Aoun said on Tuesday that while Lebanon remains committed to the peace solution between Israel and Lebanon, the Israeli side constantly "violates" Lebanon's sovereignty, a statement by Lebanon's Presidency reported.
"Israel continues to violate Lebanese sovereignty by air, land and sea, despite Lebanon's successive requests to the United Nations to put an end to such practices," Aoun said during his meeting at Baabda Palace with UN Special Coordination for Lebanon Joanna Wronecka.
Aoun told Wronecka that Lebanon remains committed to UN Resolution 1701, which was adopted in August 2006 to seek a full cessation of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel, despite Israel's repetitive violations.
Tensions between Lebanon and Israel escalated recently after Israel sent a vessel operated by London-based Energean on June 5 to the Karish field, a disputed area between the two countries.
Israel's move to send a vessel to the Karish gas field for oil and gas exploration prompted Hezbollah to launch three unarmed drones in a reconnaissance mission towards the Karish field while threatening military operations. ■
