JAKARTA, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said Tuesday that Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors Corporation would add an investment of about 10 trillion rupiahs (666.89 million U.S. dollars) in Indonesia for three years ahead and produce a new series of electric vehicles (EVs) in the Southeast Asian country.
Hartarto said in a press release that the plan was directly conveyed by CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation Takao Kato when the Indonesian minister visited him in Tokyo earlier on Tuesday.
"In our meeting, the CEO asked the Indonesian government to give them fiscal incentives for their export products. And we're still considering it," Hartarto said, adding that up to 2021, Mitsubishi had invested around 11.3 trillion rupiahs (753 million dollars) to expand its production in Indonesia.
Hartarto said Indonesia is a big marketplace for Mitsubishi. "Even the sales of Mitsubishi products in Indonesia are higher compared to the sales in Japan itself," he said. ■
