RIO DE JANEIRO, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Gabriel Menino struck late as Palmeiras moved four points clear at the top of Brazil's Serie A championship with a 2-1 home victory over Internacional on Sunday.
Paraguayan defender Gustavo Gomez opened the scoring in the 18th minute by bundling home from close range at Allianz Parque.
Alexandre Alemao equalized in the 82nd minute, latching onto an Edenilson pass and firing into the top left corner.
Menino restored the hosts' lead when he drilled a cool finish into the bottom left corner following Vanderlan's cross.
The result left Palmeiras with 39 points from 19 matches, four points ahead of second-placed Corinthians. Internacional dropped to seventh in the 20-team standings with 30 points.
In other fixtures on Sunday, Santos drew 0-0 at Fortaleza, America Mineiro won 1-0 at Goianiense, Corinthians prevailed 2-1 at Atletico Mineiro, Fluminense clinched a 2-1 home win over Bragantino, Juventude won 1-0 at home to Ceara, and Flamengo won 2-1 at Avai. ■
