CAIRO, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held talks on Sunday with Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit on ways of fostering Arab-Russian ties and the latest regional and international developments of common concern.
In his speech to Arab League ambassadors in Cairo, Lavrov reviewed the Russian-Arab relations and the updates in light of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, as Moscow seeks to resume the activities of the Russian-Arab Forum that was suspended over the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.
Lavrov also said Western nations were distorting the truth about the impact of sanctions on global food security, accusing Western nations of trying to impose their hegemony over others.
The top Russian diplomat is currently on an African tour that takes him to Egypt, Ethiopia, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo from July 24 to 28.
