BEIJING, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines over the past week:

1. Wang Jianan takes historic long jump gold for China at athletics worlds

Wang Jianan stunned the field to grab China's first ever long jump gold medal at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, the United States on July 16.

Wang surged to victory in his last attempt, nailing a gold-winning 8.36m to beat reigning Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou of Greece.


2. OCA announces new dates for 19th Asian Games

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) on July 19 announced the new dates for the 19th Asian Games which will be held in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8, 2023.

The 19th Asian Games was originally planned to be held from September 10 to 25, 2022, but was postponed by the OCA Executive Board on May 6 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.


3. China knocked out by Lebanon in FIBA Asia Cup quarterfinals

China was eliminated from the FIBA Asia Cup after losing to Lebanon 72-69 in the quarterfinals in Jakarta, Indonesia on July 20.

Zhou Qi scored a team-high 22 points for China and grabbed 21 rebounds, and both Xu Jie and Gu Quan added nine.


4. Feng Bin outperforms Olympic champions to win women's discus gold at athletics worlds

China's Feng Bin claimed the women's discus throw title at the World Athletics Championships on July 20.

Feng managed a personal best 69.12 meters in her first attempt, which was unbeaten by other throwers afterwards.

Two-time Olympic champion Sandra Perkovic from Croatia took silver in 68.45m. Reigning Olympic champion Valarie Allman of the United States settled for bronze in 68.30m.

With two competition days remaining, China ranks fourth in the medal table with two gold, one silver and two bronze medals.


5. Wang Manyu wins women's singles title at WTT Champions

China's Wang Manyu claimed the women's singles title at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions in Budapest, Hungary on July 23.

China has already secured the women's singles championship as Chen Meng, Wang Manyu, Sun Yingsha and Wang Yidi took all the the semifinal spots.

Wang Manyu and Wang Yidi reached the final after notching victories against teammates in full games, before Wang Manyu won 4-2 over Wang Yidi.

In the men's singles final, China's Lin Gaoyuan wasted a three-game lead, falling 4-3 to Tomokazu Harimoto of Japan.
