BAMAKO, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Heavy gunfire and explosions were heard early on Friday at a military camp in Kati, about 15 kilometers from Mali's capital, Bamako, according to sources.
One military source who requested anonymity told Xinhua that the targetted military camp houses both soldiers and civilians and that "the situation is under control."
Another resident reached by Xinhua by telephone reported seeing helicopters flying over the city.
"No doubt they are trying to prevent the attackers from fleeing," the resident said.
The Directorate of Information and Public Relations of the Armed Forces has not yet officially reacted on the reported attack Friday morning.
On Wednesday, three soldiers were killed and 18 others wounded in almost simultaneous attacks targetting the military in central and western Mali. ■
